Carbon cycle science - Atmospheric inversion - Data assimilation - Mesoscale modeling - Lagrangian Dispersion modeling

My research aims at building future carbon cycle data assimilation systems for Earth sciences in support of climate policies. I am currently a co-investigator on the first research effort to attempt to quantify carbon emissions from urban areas (INFLUX project) in order to monitor and verify mitigation policy efforts in large metropolitan areas. I am now involved in a similar effort over the Los Angeles basin (LA-Megacity project) to monitor greenhouse gas emissions using in-situ and remote sensing measurements. I'm also leading a large project over the Marcellus shale gas in northeastern Pennsylvania to measure the impact of gas production activities on methane emissions. More recently, the Atmospheric Carbon transport - America project, a multi-investigator project funded by NASA, was awarded to improve transport modeling systems used in atmosheric inversions. I will lead the science team of this project with multiple groups involved in an extensive inter-comparison effort of atmospheric models and inversion systems.
