Entry Level – Marine Meteorologist Technician / Land Forecaster

The FleetWeather Group of Companies continues to expand and has immediate openings for both marine meteorologists and land-based forecast meteorologists.  FleetWeather is looking to fill Entry Level Marine Meteorological Technician / Land Forecasting positions, as well as those where experience is required.  We're offering this opportunity solely to top-notch, eager and talented individuals, desiring a fulfilling career and superb work environment second to none!

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor of Science in Meteorology with no professional work experience necessary
  • High attention to detail
  • Strong critical thinking skills
  • Strong math skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Strong typing and data entry skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
  • Strong understanding of global geography with an emphasis on ocean basins and shipping ports
  • Thorough understanding of GMT/UTC time
  • Ability to efficiently locate and plot latitude/longitude points across the globe
  • Eager to learn and develop a career in the maritime industry

DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Review, evaluate, quality control and enter vessel data provided by ship captains from all around the world
  • Communicate with vessel captains regarding their vessel data
  • Work with propriety software to track vessel data along oceanic voyages
  • Provide verbal and written forecasts for a wide variety of land based clients
  • Providing superior customer service to clients worldwide
  • Heavy use of software applications and the Internet, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to work under time constraints and stay focused and sharp while performing repetitive task work
  • Be easily managed and excel in a team environment

In house training and development will provide strong candidates with the opportunity to advance to higher level positions that require learning global weather patterns and advanced knowledge of the commercial shipping industry.
