SUMMARY:
We are seeking applications for the dynamic role as a program coordinator and data specialist for a new national-scale database development project in atmospheric chemistry, hired at the Postdoctoral Scholar level. The Data Postdoc will be a part of the project administrative team, and will coordinate with different project groups, such as data providers, database programmers, database stewards, and others, to achieve the objectives of the project. Atmospheric chemistry data are inhomogeneous; they originate from a variety of research experiments and were collected with a multitude of instrumentation. The Data Postdoc should be comfortable with, or eager to learn about, the different data file formats (e.g., xslx, csv, ICARTT, xml) and able to work with the data programmatically. A basic understanding of data curation/stewardship concepts is also desirable. The Data Postdoc will join Tran Nguyen’s team at UC Davis, and work closely with similar data managers from the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and scientists from several research universities in the United States.

The specific duties of the position may include: (1) communicating with project groups; (2) creating programming scripts to homogenize, visualize, and check data; (3) coordinating and undergoing training with the data stewardship team at NCAR; (4) processing atmospheric chemistry datasets; (5) testing data access in prototype versions of the database; (6) documenting methods, guidelines, and templates (7) performing quality assurance/quality control checks.

The appointment is for one-year, renewable for up to three years subject to satisfactory progress.
