Job Description

WSYX/WTTE, in Columbus, OH, is looking for a Chief Meteorologist to lead our weather team. As the Chief Meteorologist, you will be responsible for setting the direction of the department and for the weathercast both on-air and our digital platforms. You will issue warnings and alerts, produce graphics and maps, and report live during weather events. You must be able to utilize social media during severe weather, as well as write weather stories.

Responsibilities include:

  • Forecasting, producing and presenting clear and concise weather cast, which tell a story and connect with viewers
  • Developing content and graphics for on-air, web and social media
  • Making public appearances on behalf of the station
  • Working with newscast producer to determine relevant weather content in breaking and everyday situations
  • Doing live shots and reporting from community events and in breaking news

Skills:

  • An excellent communicator
  • A professional on-air presence
  • Possess a strong science background
  • Someone who can clearly explain the weather story, utilizing graphics and video, in a way that helps our audience prepare for various weather conditions

Experience:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, broadcast journalism or communications is required
  • Certified meteorologist is desired
  • Experience with Weather Central or similar weather graphics system is preferred
  • Previous on-air experience presenting weather is required
