Catastrophe Modeling Analyst

Job Class
Overview:
The Catastrophe Modeling Analyst models the risk of loss from natural perils to specific business divisions and to subsets of the company’s property portfolio.
Position & Responsibilities:
- Explain the significance of modeling results to underwriters, product managers, and regional managers in clear language
- Model certain individual policies prior to quote
- Model “book rolls” brokered from other carriers prior to quote
- Model various books of business by distribution channel, by state or other geography, or by peril in order to support growth plans
- Model by different segmentation classes to support ratemaking
- Run various accumulation analyses of the company’s in-force exposure
- Conduct geospatial analyses to find relationships and patterns that can be used strategically
- Provide analytical support for the design of new products
- Prepare event responses to recent or developing natural catastrophes
- Model in-force portfolios to assist in enterprise catastrophe risk aggregation
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Strong analytical and quantitative aptitude.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- A positive attitude, with a sense of urgency directed toward completing detailed assignments accurately and by the due date.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Access.
- SQL querying, GIS mapping software experience or VBA programming experience would be a plus.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required. Humanities majors are welcome but must have a strong analytical and quantitative aptitude; Typical majors well suited to the position include Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Risk Management, Actuarial Science or Finance degrees.
- 1-2 years of experience in insurance or business, or professional internship experience a plus.
